About Oman Air
Oman Air is the flagship carrier of the Sultanate of Oman and an Official 4 Star Airline (Skytrax 2011). Founded in 1993, the airline has since witnessed massive growth and has played a major role in making Muscat an important traffic hub in the Middle East, supporting the commercial, industrial and tourism sectors.
The airline currently operates direct international flights from Muscat to Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Madina, and Kuwait, in the Gulf region, as well as Cairo, Amman, Tehran, Mashhad, Najaf, Zanzibar and Dar Es Salaam within the wider Middle East/Africa region.
In addition Oman Air flies to eleven destinations in India (Goa, Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad, Delhi, Lucknow, Bangalore, Kozhikode and Jaipur); Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore in Pakistan; Kathmandu in Nepal; and Colombo in Sri Lanka. The airline also flies to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Jakarta in the Far East, Guangzhou in China and Nairobi in Kenya. Its European destinations are London, Manchester, Milan, Munich, Frankfurt, Paris, and Zurich.
Oman Air’s domestic destinations are Salalah, Khasab and Duqum. It also serves five additional domestic points for The Duqm Special Economic Zone Authority (SEZAD), Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and Occidental, which are JNJ (Duqm), OMM (Marmul), RNM (Qarn AlAlam), UKH (Mukhaizinah) and FAU (Fahud).
In 2018 Oman Air launched new services to Istanbul in June, Casablanca in July, and Moscow in October – all of which were well received by Oman Air guests. In addition to new routes, the airline reintroduced services to the Maldives. At just three and a half hours away from Muscat, the Maldives remains a popular winter sun destination. Oman Air has also increased frequency on its established routes including flights to Cairo and local Oman routes with increased flights from Muscat to Salalah, as well as Salalah to Dubai during the summer.
Offering a wider network, the airline has codeshare agreements with a number of airline partners. These are: Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Gulf Air, Etihad, Ethiopian Airlines, Royal Jordanian, Turkish Airlines, Sri Lankan Airlines, KLM, Garuda Airlines, Thai Airways, Saudia, Malaysia Airlines, Kenyan Airways and Bangkok Airlines, offering travellers better connectivity and increased choice.
The airline has expanded the fleet in 2018 with three new Dreamliners, two of which feature the award-winning First Class offering; the Muscat to London route has benefitted from the deployment of these planes offering 16 First Class cabins flying on a daily basis between Muscat and the UK.
The First Class Private Suite on the new Dreamliners provide all First Class passengers with fully enclosed, extra tall, suites with doors to ensure privacy and converts to a very comfortable lie-flat seat in the skies. The outstanding Business Class seats each provide easy aisle access, ample storage space and the latest technological amenities. Economy Class seats offer adjustable head and leg rests, together with generous leg and elbow room. State of the art in-flight entertainment systems feature individual seatback screens, audio and video on demand and live satellite TV. In addition, Oman Air has pioneered both mobile telephony and Internet connectivity on board its wide-bodied flights and this is available in all three classes.
Opening of world class airport terminal at Muscat airport
Perhaps one of the most important milestones of 2018 was the opening of the new passenger terminal at Oman Air’s base in Muscat Airport in March 2018 and transferring Oman Air’s operations to this fantastic new facility. Strategically this was a very important move allowing Oman Air to offer a thoroughly enhanced service. The check-in process is now seamless for all customers and Premium Class customers can avail themselves of designated check-in areas and entrances not to mention our premium lounge which offer elegant and tranquil surroundings with semi-public spaces with plenty of light.
The airport itself can handle 12 million passengers per year and its runway accommodates the world’s largest aircraft, the Airbus A380, and independent parallel operation. With its excellent facilities including 6,000 square metres of Duty-Free shopping, 96 check-in counters, 8,000 parking spaces and a 90-room airside hotel.
The environment and continued growth plans
In order to grow and develop, Oman Air continues to look at the viability of expanding the number of destinations that the airlines serves to allow even more guests to take advantage of the convenient and seamless global travel to destinations within the growing network. In addition to Moscow, Casablanca and Istanbul in 2018 Oman Air has already announced direct services between the hub in Muscat and Athens in Greece, commencing in June 2019 and Alexandria in Egypt. In addition to increasing tourism and business traffic these new routes are also a valid way for the airline to strengthen trade relations between Oman and other nations.
The introduction of three new Dreamliners into the expanding fleet in 2018 has made a very positive contribution to our impact on the environment. The Dreamliner uses 20 percent less fuel than similarly sized aircraft; it also offers 40 percent more range, produces 20 percent fewer emissions and generates a 60 percent smaller noise footprint than other aircraft in its class. This has completely transformed our operations as it benefits both their passengers, and the environment – and shows us as a responsible, environmentally-conscious company.
Oman Air Cargo
In 2018 Oman Air Cargo grew its revenue aided by Oman Air’s expanding network and fleet helping the cargo division cater to the needs of valued customers with more than 100 flight departures per day from Muscat. As the airline continues with its expansion plans, 2019 already brings Oman Air Cargo more opportunities in terms of capacity and new destinations.
Oman Air Cargo has introduced a new innovative solutions “Cargo Mobile Application”, the cargo management function that is managed through the “SmartKargo” system. The cloud-based system offers a robust set of tools providing reliable, transparent, and real-time information to Oman Air customers throughout its logistics chain, from acceptance to delivery. The management system provides more flexibility and makes it easier for customers to manage their bookings, space confirmation, pricing queries and responses whilst on the go.
